From winning a Gold medal for ice skating in the Olympics to fighting cancer, Scott Hamilton, has led a life full of success and setbacks. In his book, Finish First, he shares his story as an example of the difference winning makes. As explained in his book, no one is born a winner—each person has to make that choice in their life. We have to choose whether we want to be a winner in life or a loser. Whichever one, we choose to be, will be lived out. It all depends on our attitude. Every single person in the world can be a winner—as Scott Hamilton says, “ The only disability in life is a bad attitude.” Using his own, real-life stories, Scott Hamilton writes an inspiring story full of life lessons. Life is full of failures and setbacks, but if we choose to learn from them, we transform them into a win and a success story Finish First is an example of this and proof that “winning changes everything”.
I personally really enjoyed Scott Hamilton’s Finish First. I honestly, had never heard of him nor his story before reading this book. I thought it was incredible how he became a Gold Medalist skater, but then caught cancer and fought it hard. He never gave up trying. This was evident from in his childhood when he first was learning and practicing ice skating to when he was fighting cancer. Scott Hamilton is an example of fighting to the last and never ever giving up.
