Elliot lives in the little harbor town of Monta with his sister and his mother, trying to provide for the family because his father passed away. Without warning, buccaneers attack Monta, capturing his sister and him.
Elliot is separated from his sister and sold to a trading ship, where he befriends the captain. The crew commits mutiny, and the captain calls Davy Jones, the mysteriously powerful pirate, right before dying. Davy Jones gives Elliot mysterious powers, including the ownership of a magical ship. With this ship and a crew he picks up along the way, Elliot goes on a quest to find and save his sister, no matter the cost.

My Review

I thought the author did an awesome job balancing beautiful prose and descriptions. It was fantasy and therefore, had ghosts/skeletons in the story; I do not celebrate or promote Halloween AT ALL. I do not think I have ever read books with that theme either, therefore, when I first heard about this book, I was a little skeptical. However, the characters were not portrayed in a “horror”, “creepy”, or “halloweenish” way in one bit. When I read the book, I did not once feel like I was entering into a “haunted” story. I enjoyed the book so much that I would reccomend it.

I was a bit disappointed/confused with the ending of the story though. It felt like the author left me hanging a bit, as I did not understand what happened. I personally think that the ending is one of the most important parts of any book, because it is the main part that the readers remember; therefore, I took a star off for that. That being said, if the ending would have been better written. and did not leave me feeling like I was hanging, the book would have been a five-star.

I was very grateful that the author–Rhys Fuller–asked to do a book promotion/giveaway!
